N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–Carrington won the Region 3 baseball title for the fifth time in 6 years and also picked up several individual awards at the conclusion of the tournament.

2017 All Region Team (based on regular season voted on by the coaches of Region 3)

Sheyenne-New Rockford—Teddy Allmaras, Seth Soderholm, and Cole Myhre

Medina-PB—–Preston Martin

Kidder County—-Jayson Knight, Kamen Schmidt, and Dalten Jangula

Midkota-DP-L-GCC——Cole Varnson, Hunter Gibson, and Hunter Sand

Carrington—–Kyle Leapaldt, Jayden Shipman, and Braxton Hewitt

Shipman did not play in the Region 3 tourney and will also be out of the 2017 state tournament with an injury suffered late in the season. Shipman was the Cardinal’s second leading hitter and led the Cards in stolen bases and runs scored prior to the Region 3 tourney.

Braxton Hewitt was selected as the 2017 Senior Athlete of the Year and was also awarded the Eric Hewitt Iron Fist Award. This award will be presented yearly going forward in Region 3 in honor of long time Carrington umpire/coach Eric Hewitt (Braxton’s dad) who was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gerhig’s Disease) in January.

Region 3 coach of the year went to Wayne Shipman of Carrington and Rick Christianson of Midkota-DP-L-GCC.

Carrington will start state tournament play in Jamestown next Thursday (June 1st) and all Cardinal games will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com
