N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Sheyenne-New Rockford (SNR) Blacksox won 2 games including a 10-8 victory over top seeded Carrington to advance into the Region 3 semifinals. SNR will play Midkota-DP-Lakota-GCC (MDPLGC) who defeated Kidder County 13-3 in a 5 inning game by the 10-run rule. Here is a recap of all three games played on the first day of the tournament.
SNR 20 Medina-Pingree-Buchanon (MPB) 0 5 innings
The Blacksox scored 15 runs in the first 2 innings, collecting 8 hits and taking advantage of 9 walks and 2 errors from the MPB defense, and cruised to a 20-0 victory in the opening game of the tourney. Blacksox starting pitcher Tyrus Smith pitched 3 scoreless innings to pickup the victory and he combined with Riley Longnecker and Bo Belquist to throw a no-hitter against the Thunder. Seth Horn was the losing pitcher for MPB allowing 6 earned runs in the first inning.
SNR collected 14 hits led by Cole Myhre (3-3) and Seth Soderholm (3-4). Myhre drove in 3 runs and Soderholm drove in 2 runs and scored twice. Hunter Thompson (2-3), scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Tucker Longnecker, Josh McKnight, Belquist, and Riley Longnecker all drove in 2 runs to lead the Blacksox offensive attacks. Thompson, Smith, and Teddy Allmaras all scored 3 runs. SNR improved to 10-6 and MPB dropped to 2-14.
MDPLGC 13 Kidder County (KC) 3 5 innings
The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 2 innings and finished off the KC Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning with 4 runs to stop the game 13-3 with the 10-run rule. Eric Salveson pitched all five innings to earn the mound victory allowing 3 unearned runs, striking out five batters, scattered 6 hits, and walked 2. The Mustangs were led by Hunter Sand and Colton Berg offensively. Berg went 2-4 driving in 5 runners and Sand went 2-3, scored 4 runs, and had 4 RBI. Salveson went 2-2, scored 4 runs, and walked twice. Hunter Gibson went 1-2, 2 walks, and scored 3 runs.
The Pirates Jayson Knight went 2-3 and Brandon DeWald also went 2-3 with 2 RBI. Starting pitcher Kamen Schmidt took the loss on the mound allowing 3 earned runs in just 1 inning. The Mustangs improved to 12-9 overall and KC dropped to 10-12 with the loss.
SNR 10 Carrington 8
The top seeded Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Kyle Leapaldt’s 3- run homer, his second home run of the season. The Cards Braxton Hewitt also went deep 2 more times, his 5th and 6th homers of the season but it wasn’t enough as the Blacksox scored 6 times in the second inning and added 4 more runs in the fifth after the Cardinals had cut the lead to 6-5 after 4 innings. Teddy Allmaras was the winning pitcher for the Blacksox, allowing 8 runs (6 earned), 7 hits (3 home runs), walked 5 batters, and hit 2 batters. Cole Myhre pitched the 7th inning and picked up a save in relief. Leapaldt took the loss for Carrington, going 1.2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs, all scoringwith 2 outs in the second inning. Seth Soderholm was the only Blacksox hitter with more than 1 hit going 2-4, scoring 1 run, and driving in 3 base runners. Allmaras and Tucker Longnecker both drove in 2 runs to help aid the SNR victory. Josh McKnight, Tyrus Smith, Riley Longnecker, and Bo Belquist all scored 2 runs.
Hewitt led the Cards going 2-3 ( 2 home runs), scoring 4 runs,and knocking in 3 runs. Leapaldt went 2-4 (home run) and drove in 4 runs. Trey Rosenau went 2-3 and also drove in 1 run. Carrington now 13-6 on the season with play at 5:00 on Tuesday in a loser out game versus the winner of MPB/KC game that starts at 12:00. SNR improves it’s record to 11-6 overall and will play at 2:30 against MDPLGC in the semifinals. All games are being aired on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com with pregame starting each day at 11:40.
