FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City was one the 11 teams taking part in Saturday’s EDC Track and Field Championships in West Fargo. The event had its ups and downs for The Hi-Liners with several athletes just missing qualifying marks in their last chance to go to state. The girls placed 11th and the boys 12th. Justin Manson (100m), Taylor Johnson (Pole Vault) and Britta Roehrich (100 Hurdles and Triple Jump) will represent Valley City in the state meet which begins Friday in Bismarck.
Taylor Johnson had The Hi-Liner’s best finish of the day, she took 5th in the pole vault. Allysen Mathias had her season’s best performance and came in 7th in the javelin narrowly missing qualifying for state. The 100 meter relay team of Olivia Olson, Britta Roehrich, Jocey Kriewald and VeVe Lee nearly made state by time while taking 10th. Roehrich was 9th in the 100 meter hurdles and 11th in the triple jump. Lexi Triebold in the 800m and Avery Murray in the 1600 set personal best.
Nate Rodriguez had a career best throw and was 7th in the shot put, just one place out of moving onto state. He was part of the 4 x 100 relay team along with Seth Hansen, Eli Allen and Justin Mason that placed 8th. In the 4×200 Hansen, Allen, Tate Sufficool and Benton Murray were 10th.
