CITY, Iowa (JimmieAthletics.com) – Angela Roberts walked with the bases loaded to score the winning run as Reinhardt (Ga.) defeated Jamestown 2-1 in the first game of the Sioux City bracket in the NAIA National Softball Tournament Opening Round.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Hannah McKinley and Taylor Braselton reached on back-to-back walks against Brittany Rheault (JR/West Fargo, ND). After Jessica Baker flew out to left field, Sarah Kate Jenkins was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) relieved Rheault and walked Roberts to force home McKinley.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Linda Ontiveros (SR/Yuma, AZ) singled to center to score Kelly Halverson (SO/Surrey, BC). Halverson and Tifani Schorzman (JR/Coeur d’Alene, ID) opened the inning with singles, then moved to second and third on Rheault’s sacrifice bunt. Dunnigan walked to load the bases, setting up Ontiveros for a bases-loaded at-bat.

Jenkins drove in the tying run for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth. Taylor Weeks led off the inning with a single and advanced to third after a bunt single by McKinley and a Braselton single.

Dunnigan held Reinhardt hitless through five innings. She pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up one run on four hits, while striking out 10. Rheault replaced Dunnigan in the bottom of the sixth, getting a bases-loaded strikeout to end the Eagle threat. She took the loss, allowing one run on one hit, striking out three.

Maci Mills was the winning pitcher for Reinhardt. She worked four hitless innings of relief, surrendering just two walks. Madison Luck started and pitched the first four innings, giving up a run on five hits, walking two and striking out one.

Jamestown will face Morningside (Iowa) Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
