N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown School Board met in regular session Monday, May 15th at the Thompson Community Room.

During the meeting, School Resource Officer Andrew Staska discussed the DARE program and how it was handled in the school district this year. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

Staska says the program focuses on better decision making when it comes to pressure to use drugs or alcohol. He says each school celebrated their completion of dare with a graduation ceremony.

Adam Sortland, a Louis L’aMour student, shared part of his DARE report with the board.

Several other students also presented their DARE report. School Board member Heidi Larson stated that she was glad to see how much Officer Staska has become involved in the school’s and that it appeared that the students had learned a lot.

Later, Food Services Director Shelley Mack shared changes that the schools will be seeing in food meals in the future. One of the biggest changes Mack pointed out was that meals would not require 100% whole wheat products.

The school board later approved the purchase of textbooks in the amount of $199,799.58 and a rental agreement with the Jamestown Gymnastics Club for $8,500 in 2017-18.

Several resignations were also discussed during the meeting. They include 3rd Grade Teacher at Roosevelt Katie Sather, 6th Grade Reading Teacher Hatti Fullmer, Gussner Elementary Principal David Saxberg, and Foreign Language Instructor Jenna Simon.

Board member Bob Toso stated some concerns with the search for a new principal at Gussner Elementary.
