funeral service for Elizabeth “Betty” Nelson, 94, Valley City, North Dakota, will be 2 pm Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City.  She died May 13, 2017 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Elizabeth “Betty” Anderson was born January 17, 1923 in Valley City, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Grotberg) Anderson.  She was raised and educated in Valley City and graduated from high school in 1941.  Betty was united in marriage to Lloyd Nelson on October 24, 1942 and raised their three children while farming in the Kathryn area.  She was a housewife and participated in the Marsh Homemakers and 4-H Clubs before moving into Valley City.  She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a half-brother, Lawrence Anderson, and a half-sister, Mildred Anderson.

Betty is survived by her sons, David (Vivian) Nelson and Gary Nelson, both of Valley City; her daughter, Cheryl (Myron) Senechal, Bismarck, North Dakota; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
