N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A New Rockford man was charged with attempted murder stemming from an incident that involved an assault against a woman and a man back in July of 2016. More details about the attack will be released later.

47-year old Alexander Lail was charged earlier this month with aggravated assault in what prosecutors say was a brutal attack against a rural Harvey man where an ice auger was used on the leg of the victim in March of 2017. The victim, 55 year old Jason Thomas died of heart related issues on April 28th.

Wells County State’s Attorney’s office charged Lail with one count of Class “A” Felony Criminal Conspiracy and one count of Class B Felony Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault against Jason Thomas.

Lail is also accused of placing a digital recorder in the office of the police chief in Fessenden. He faces a Class “C” Felony charge of Interception of Wire or Oral Communication stemming from the March 23rd incident.

During a court appearance on May 10th Judge James Hovey denied Lail’s request for bail reduction. Judge Hovey granted Lail’s request for a court appointed counsel to represent Lail on all of these charges.
