N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——–The Thompsom Tommies improved to 11-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Carrington. The Cardinals scored first in the top of the first inning but they let the Tommies get out of a potentially big inning scoring just 1 unearned run. The Cards loaded the bases with no outs, and scored on a throwing error as the Tommies attempted a 5-2-3 double play. After a force out at home an errant throw from catcher Cadyn Schwabe allowed Jayden Shipman to score. The only other Cardinal run came in the 4th inning when Drew Page doubled deep to right center field and scored on Trey Rosenau’s BI single, cutting the Thompson lead to 3-2.

Thompson scored on a past ball in the second inning tying the game at 1-1. The Tommies took the lead for good in the  third inning on a 2 run double from Brett Sutter-Hegg that plated Trey Larimer who doubled and Clen Schwabe who was hit by pitch. The Tommies added 2 insurance runs in the 5th with 2 outs. Sutter-Hegg walked and stole second base and scored on a Marcus Hughes RBI single and Hughes scored on a Tyler Hegg RBI single. Thompson starting pitcher Calen Schwabe pitched all 7 innings picking up the win. Calen allowed 2 runs (1 earned), struck out 4 batters, did not allow any walks, and hit 1 batter. Kyle Leapaldt took the loss for Carrington, allowing 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 2 hit batters, and had 1 strikeout in 3 innings. Lucas Geiszler pitched the final 3 innings and allowed 2 runs, 2 hits, had 4 strike outs, and walked 1 batter.

Carrington dropped to 7-4 overall and Thompson improved to 11-0. The Cardinals will play in Casselton on Friday and Saturday and all 3 games will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com Pregame will start at 2:00 on both days and first pitch versus M-P-C-G is scheduled for 2:15, 4:00 versus Grafton, and 2:15 on Saturday versus Hillsboro-CV.
