(NewsDakota.com) In their final home game of the 2017 regular season, the Oakes High School baseball team held on, and then lit up the scoreboard in the latter innings to propel them to a 15-6 victory against Fargo Oak Grove at Cummings Field Monday night.
The offense for the Tornadoes, who ended their five game losing streak in Class B Region I play started in the first inning, courtesy of designated hitter Trey Juran.
Oak Grove would battle back in the third, fourth and fifth innings, scoring three, one and two runs respectively; and took the lead back for the second time in the fifth with a double by Jace Pulst.
But Oakes’ bats would come alive in the sixth, with eight runs across on seven hits, including a triple from Tyler Voightman.
Mike McKenna earned the win for the Tornadoes (4-7 Class B Region) going two and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Issac Noel was the losing pitcher for Oak Grove (0-7), striking out four, but allowing 12 runs on 12 hits.
