N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Wahpeton took a pair of EDC baseball games Saturday afternoon at John Randall Field. The Hi-Liners lost 10-1 in the first game and 7-3 in the 2nd to drop their record to 0-13. Tuesday they host Fargo South at Charlie Brown Field.

 

 

Game 1: Wahpeton 10 VCHS 1

The Huskies used 3 pitchers to limit Valley City to a run on 3 hits. Nate Rodriguez, Riley Gerhardt and Matt Brandvold all recorded base hits. Gerhardt drove in Rodriguez in the 4th inning. Nolan Wamre and Beau Giles went to 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs for The Huskies. 

Rodriguez started for Valley City, he went 3 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts while taking the loss. Reese Huschka pitched the final 3 innings. Wahpeton starter and winning pitcher Trevor Bauer worked 5 innings allowing just a hit and a run with 6 Ks.

Game 2: WHS 7 VCHS 3

The Hi-Liners fell behind 3-0 early and came back to cut it to 5-3. Wahpeton added 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th for insurance and held on to get the sweep. Stephan Brooks and Carl Bjugstad both had complete games. Bjugstad allowed 6 hits and 3 runs with 8 strike outs. Brooks gave up 10 hits and 4 earned runs with 4 strikeouts in a losing effort. 

Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the 3rd. Devin Anderson also drove in a run. David Fletcher had 2 hits and Brooks hit a double. Cole McGough and Sam Jenson both went 1 for 3. Bjugstad helped his cause with a 3 hit game.
