Rockford, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——Braxton Hewitt allowed just 1 Sheyenne-New Rockford (S-NR) hit and struck out 13 Blacksox batters leading Carrington to a 7-0 victory. Seth Soderholm would get the only base hit versus Hewitt and it loaded the bases for S-NR in the bottom of the 6th inning with one out. Hewitt would strike out the next 2 batters and get out of the only offensive threat of the game from the Blacksox.
Hewitt also went 2-3 at the plate including an RBI double in the 7th inning and a run scoring single in the first inning. Payton Smith got the Cardinals offense going right away in the first inning with a single and later scored on Jaden Shipman’s RBI single. Shipman scored on Hewitt’s single to make it 2-0 after a half inning. Carrington would get another run in the 4th inning on a Lucas Geiszler RBI double that scored Drew Page who singled earlier in the inning. Smith walked and scored in the 5th inning on a Jayden Rosenau fielders choice. Hewitt, Kyle Leapaldt, and Trey Rosenau all added RBI base hits in the 7th inning to lead 7-0. More than enough offense for Hewitt who closed out the game striking out the side in the bottom of the 7th. Carrington improved to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in Region 3 play. The Blacksox dropped to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in Region 3 play. The Cards and Blacksox will play again on Monday (8th) in Carrington at 4:30 and can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com
