(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School baseball team had a myriad of chances, but in the end, fell short to the Northern Cass Jaguars 2-1 Tuesday afternoon.

The scoreboard was blank until the bottom of the fourth when the Jaguars’ Ethan Slinger scored on an RBI single by Wrigley Elston. Oakes would answer with Jordan Cunningham scoring in the top of the fifth, but stranded two runners on base in both the fifth and sixth innings. Northern Cass (4-2 Class B Region I) would score the winning run in the fifth via Nick Nelson reaching home.

For the second time this season, Logan Nelson was the winning pitcher against the Tornadoes, allowing just a single hit while striking out three. Oakes’ Mike McKenna took the loss, going six innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.

Oakes (3-6) returns home for a contest Thursday as they welcome Central Cass. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 4:45 p.m., with first pitch at 5 p.m.
