N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The small community of Napoleon, North Dakota was rocked when it was learned that former officer Nathan Weber had taken his own life.

In February of this year, Napoleon Police Chief James Waldo and officer Weber had been dismissed of their duties as officers of the law. Mayor Todd Moos made the recommendation on February 7th to suspend both officers. They were later terminated from the department.

In March, an executive session was called during the regular Napoleon City Council Meeting. Attorney Brian Schmidt, representing the city, discussed the legal action against the city of Napoleon by former Police Chief James Waldo and officer Nathan Weber.

On April 26th, it was learned that Weber had taken his own life. Linda Weber, mother of Nathan, says in a Facebook post that Mayor Moos and others should be held accountable for the “wrongful termination” that was a contributing factor in Weber’s suicide.

Because of the ongoing investigation, Mayor Todd Moos and others are not able to make comments. Attorney Brian Schmidt stated that he and his offices offer their condolences to the Weber family during this tough time.

The funeral for Nathan will be held on on Tuesday, May 2nd in Devils Lake.
