“Amy” Wiest, age 84, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, April 28th at her residence in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 4th at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Thursday morning at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.
Amy was born April 1, 1933, in Reeder, ND, the daughter of Earl and Catherine Hersrud. She grew up in the Hettinger, ND area, graduating from Hettinger High School in 1951. Amy received her nursing education from Presentation College, Aberdeen, SD, graduating in 1954. On April 10, 1954, Amy married Don Wiest in Hettinger, ND. The couple enjoyed 52 years of marriage, Don passing away in September 27, 2006 in Valley City. Amy worked her entire life as a caring registered nurse, the last 25 years in the Valley City Clinic. She retired in 1997. Amy loved spending time with Don at the lake, with children and grandchildren. She taught them the love of birdwatching. Amy’s favorite trips were to Black Hawk Ridge and Duluth, MN with her sister Dodie for the National Bird Count. She enjoyed visiting and collecting lighthouses, gathering pinecones and bird feathers! Amy also was a talented quilter, which she shared with family members. In the past few years Amy enjoyed her coffee time with MaryLou and Gert and friends at Bridgeview. Eating out with children and grandchildren was a treat as was singing the old hymns at church.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Karen) Wiest, Elk River, MN, and Kim (Patricia) Wiest, Bismarck, ND; one daughter, Carol (Tim) Huber, Valley City, ND; six grandchildren: Corey, Ryan, Katie (Jason) Bell, Lisa, Devlin and Duncan; 2 great-grandsons, Benjamin and Glyder; 2 brothers, Russ and Gene; and 2 sisters, Mary and Dodie.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Catherine; her husband, Don; one brother, John; and a son-in-law, Billy Johnson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Hospice of Valley City.
