N.D. (KFGO) – A North Dakota county has suddenly found itself without a sheriff’s department.

Wells County Sheriff Johnny Lawson has resigned for what he says are personal reasons.  The county commission has also fired his two deputies. The State’s Attorney’s office confirms the moves and says an investigation is underway.

Departments in Foster, Eddy and Sheridan counties will provide law enforcement coverage for Wells County, at least temporarily.

Lawson has asked people to pray for himself and his family as they continue on to new adventures.
