CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City School District is working to finalizing their strategic plan. School officials have been busy gathering public input on what is the best direction for the school district over the next five years.

Superintendent Josh Johnson said the district has received a number of good ideas over the last month. He said a final plan will be approved by the school board this summer.

Johnson said the second strategic planning meeting will be held tonight at 5pm in the Hi Liner Activity Center. The public is encouraged to attend.

During a special school board meeting on April 26th, Johnson said changes may be coming in the state school funding formula following the conclusion of the 2017 legislative session.

Johnson said school superintendents across the state are concerned that if oil revenues don’t bounce back to replenish the state foundation aid stabilization fund, K-12 could experience the same type of cuts Higher Education faced this year.

In other news, the school board approved a recommendation to post and advertise for a new Activities Director to replace Martin Bratrud who will step down from that position at the end of the school year.

The board also approved a contract to hire Summer Romine to be a Junior High Counselor.
