N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Sirens could be heard in the area late Wednesday morning as the county tested emergency sirens.

The test comes as part of Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week. Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist reports that the exercise began at around 11:18 AM with a test tornado warning initiated by the National Weather Service.

Bergquist reports that sirens in Medina, Buchanan, and Cleveland were operational and are ready for summer. Streeter’s sirens failed to activate and will need repairs made by local officials. Bergquist says sirens in Jamestown were all operational except for the one located at Lifestyle Appliance in the southwest.

“That siren malfunctioned,” Bergquist reported. “An effort is underway to get that siren repaired and ready for summer use.”

The National Weather Service activated its All Hazards Radio System, which allowed local radio stations and cable TV providers to test their Emergency Alert Systems. CodeRED was not part of the exercise. Individuals can sign up for the free service by visiting www.co.stutsman.nd.us.
