CITY. N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A crash between a Valley City Police squad car and an Open Door Center van on April 21st injured a police officer and sent two other people to the hospital for observation.

Barnes County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Anderson said the driver of the van Tanner Hovland was cited for Failure to Yield. He escaped serious injuries in the crash.

Anderson said the Valley City Police Car was northbound on 2nd Ave S.E. and the van was southbound on 2nd Ave N.E. He said the van turned east onto main street and collided with the patrol car.

Anderson said Valley City Police Sgt. Dana Rustebakke was the driver of the police car and had to be extracted from his vehicle by the Barnes County Valley City Fire & Rescue Squad. He and two passengers in the van were transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City for observation.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation of this April 21st crash in Valley City.
