N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Alfred Dickey Library will turn 100 years old in 2019 and is in desperate need of repairs.

Bill Kennedy is the Development Director for the James River Valley Library System. He says on President’s Day in 2019, the Alfred Dickey Library will reach 100 years as part of the community.

Kennedy reports that roof repair took place in April, its first renovation in 98 years. Several renovations are planned including LED projects, wood shelving, new carpet, and painting. The fundraising goal is $410,000.

Kennedy pointed out that renovations will allow them to continue expanding their electronic offerings such as their DVD’s and computers.

Renovations will later lead to the expansion of the library. After purchasing the Marantha Building and Maple Mall, the library will be able to expand to 25,000 square feet and enable them to acquire more state grants.

Library plans will be available to view at the Alfred Dickey Library all week long during Love Your Library Week.
