N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The newly formed Friends of the James River Valley Library System is looking for members.
The group was formed to help increase awareness in the community of the diverse services provided by the JRVLS and help raise funds for the renovation and expansion of the Alfred Dickey Library. Jill Shaffer is a member of the board.
Currently, the Alfred Dickey Library is set to reach 100 years in 2019. The Centennial Initiative will expand the library to 25,000 square feet and will help the library qualify for more state grants.
Kennedy says this week, the roof has been replaced, the first major work done to it in 98 years. The Love Your Library Week will help in celebrating the library and what it offers, as well as those wanting to learn more about it.
Shaffer reports that tours will take place with a librarian and historian on several days out of the week. There will also be adult programs as the library system continues to expand them, book signings, photo exhibits and bookmobile tours in the week. Find the full schedule below.
For those interested in learning more about the Friends group or the library expansion, information will be presented during the Love Your Library week and will also be present at the Home & Garden show this weekend. You can call Bill Kennedy at 701-252-2217 for more information.
