N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Law enforcement patrols across the state participated in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from March 1-31, 2017, to reinforce the importance of not driving under the influence.

Over the course of the campaign, 177 alcohol or drug-related arrests and citations were made.

A total of 867 citations were made throughout the enforcement patrols. Of those total citations, there were 99 alcohol-related with 88 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests. There were another 23 arrests or citations for other alcohol-related violations such as minor in consumption or open container and 55 drug-related arrests.

Impaired driving is completely preventable and stopping it can prevent tragedies on North Dakota’s roads. In 2016, 43 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities in North Dakota were alcohol-related.

Funding for additional traffic safety enforcement is provided by federal grant money distributed through the NDDOT. High-visibility enforcement for traffic safety is one element of a collaborative effort to eliminate motor vehicle deaths in North Dakota.
