CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)- The Viking softball team dropped two tight games to the University of Regina on Friday, 2-1 and 5-3. The Vikings would threaten in the bottom of the seventh inning both games, but would ultimately fall short.  

The Vikings fall to 15-27 overall their NSAA record remains at 6-12.

Up Next: Next weekend the Vikings will travel to Dakota State for a pair of conference double headers. 

Regina 2, VCSU 1

The Cougars opened the game scoring one run in the top of the first.  The rest of the game would be a pitcher’s duel with both pitchers only giving up five hits apiece.  Regina pushed across another run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead.  VCSU scored a run and loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but the comeback bid would fall short. The Cougars took game one 2-1. 

Cameron Hughes earned the win for Regina and Rachel Huber picked up the save.  Ashley Metcalf pitched a complete game and took the loss for VCSU while striking out four batters.  Cassie Pautz had two hits for the Vikings, Kelsey Hamade had one hit and one RBI.

Regina again opened the scoring in top of the first pushing across two runs.  The Vikings would answer scoring one run in both the first and second innings to tie the game.  The Cougars knocked one run across in the fourth, fifth, and six innings to take a 5-2 lead to the seventh. The Vikings cut the Cougar lead to two with the winning run at the plate. Cassie Pautz would get ahold of a pitch that would ultimately be caught at the fence. Giving the Cougars  the sweep 5-3. 

Leslie Miller earned the win for Regina.  Kathleen Gallais took the loss.  Haley Butterfield struck out nine in relief, pitch six and two-thirds innings Jayme Menard and Cassie Pautz both had hits for VCSU.
