(NewsDakota.com) It was another tough luck loss for the Oakes High School baseball team in Class B Region I play. In their home opener of the 2017 season, the Tornadoes outhit Northern Cass 5-3, but ended up losing the game 2-0.
The Jaguars (3-1 Class B Region I) struck first with Isaiah Aaseby walking in via a wild pitch in the third inning, and a single from Wrigley Elston drove in an insurance run in the form of Tanner Leahy in the fifth.
Nick Nelson earned the win, lasting all seven inning and striking out seven. Taylor Schall took the loss on the mound for the Tornadoes (1-2), going five innings, allowing one earned run on a single hit, while fanning eight batters.
Oakes head to Townsend Field in LaMoure Tuesday April 18 for a date with LaMoure-Litchville/Marion. Both games will be seven innings in lenght, and count in the regional standings. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, with first pitch of game one at 4:30.
