N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp has announced that she’s joined a bipartisan group of 19 other senators to push for continued federal funding for Essential Air Service (EAS) in North Dakota.
The program guarantees airports like Devils Lake, Dickinson, and Jamestown have affordable air travel, supporting local economies. The current president’s budget proposal would eliminate the program.
Each year, EAS invests $4.2 million in Dickinson, $4 million in Devils Lake, and $2.8 million Jamestown airports. It’s helped Devils Lake and Jamestown reach record breaking passenger boarding’s in 2016 as well.
