(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School baseball team fell to 1-1 in Class B Region I play after a 6-1 loss in Casselton Tuesday to Central Cass High.

The Tornadoes were able to score the first run of the game, unearned, in the first inning, but were unable to put another run across, despite having plenty of chances; including with the bases loaded and nobody out in the fifth inning.

Mike McKenna, who won last week on the mound for Oakes, was the losing pitcher Tuesday, going five innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. Michael Ueland eared the victory for the Squirrels (2-0 Class B Region 1), also lasting five innings and striking out five in the process. McKenna had two of the five Oakes hits in the game.

Central Cass next plays April 20, when they head to Enderlin to meet Enderlin/Maple Valley.

Oakes plays their first home game of the 2017 season on Thursday, when they welcome Northern Cass. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM starts at 4:15 p.m., with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
