SPRING, Minn (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown and Viterbo baseball teams were not scheduled to play in the conference season, so they decided to meet halfway and play two midweek games. The Jimmies won both games by scores of 11-7 and 6-5.
Jimmies 11, Viterbo 7
Jamestown jumped on the V-Hawks early with a two-run first inning that started with two outs. Landon Uetz and Tyler Ludlow doubled and Quinn Irey singled to put UJ in front early. Viterbo took the lead at 4-2 and then Jamestown opened the flood gates with a seven-run fourth inning.
The Hawks trailing 11-4 into the seventh inning put up a fight scoring three times, before Nick Torres was able to put out the fire.
Ludlow finished 2-3 with a double and three RBIs. Beau Rabedeaux was the winning pitcher.
Jimmies 6, Viterbo 5
It was Viterbo who started quick in game two with back-to-back two run innings. Jamestown put up three runs in the top of the third thanks to a few breaks; an error, a ball that deflected off the umpire and a pop-up that was misplayed in the infield.
The Hawks scored to make it 5-3 before Alex Sablan ripped a double to right-center field to close the gap. Jamestown took the lead in the sixth inning on RBI singles from Taichi Sasaki and Irey.
Eric Evans went two and two-thirds of scoreless baseball for the win.
Jamestown hosts No. 5 Bellevue on Friday at The Jack. First pitch is at 1pm and can be heard on ESPN Jamestown.
