N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In their first Region 3 match-up of the year, the Carrington Cardinals scored four runs in the first inning and nine in the second and cruised to a 19-0 victory over the Thunder of Medina/Pingree/Buchanan. Carrington is now 1-0 and 1-2 overall, MPB drops to 0-2 and 0-2 overall.
The number three batter, Senior Braxton Hewitt was 4 for 4 at the plate, including a 2-run homerun, a triple, two doubles, six RBI’s and scored three runs. Junior Jayden Shipman had three singles and an RBI and Sophomore Payton Smith had four hits including three singles and a triple and knocked in three runs. The winning pitcher was Lucas Geiszler, working two innings, allowing just two hits, no runs and three strikeouts. Smith relieved Geiszler in the third inning, he had five strikeouts, allowed no runs and no hits and worked three innings.
The loss went to Junior Preston Martin. Sophomore Gunner Buskness and Eighth grader Corey Christopherson each had a single for MPB.
Next up for Carrington will be on Tuesday, April 18th in New Rockford against fellow Region 3 team the Blacksox of Sheyenne/New Rockford. Pregame will start about 4:15pm on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com, 4:30pm first pitch. MPB will host SNR next week Thursday, April 20th.
