N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Game & Fish Department is reporting that snow geese may be at their peak in the area for the season.

Game & Fish Biologist Doug Leier reported earlier this year that temperatures have caused the snow geese numbers to fluctuate. Leier stated that at this point in time, they may be at the highest numbers individuals will see all year.

Top numbers can be found in the region from Bismarck to Devils Lake and the areas in between. Leier says for hunters, this is the best time to hunt snow geese.

Leier also reports that whooping cranes are beginning their migration through the state.

Residents can admire the birds, but Game & Fish says to not disturb them. Leier says individuals should report where they’ve seen whooping cranes in the state to the Game & Fish Department.

Leier also reminds state residents that spring turkey season begins April 8th. You can find more information online at gf.nd.gov.
