S.D. (NewsDakota.com) The names have been released in a two-vehicle crash that killed a teenager and injured another Tuesday afternoon south of Frederick, South Dakota.
South Dakota Department of Public Safety spokesman Tony Mangan said 17 year-old Alexander Bowman of Westport, S.D., died of injuries suffered in the crash. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 16 year-old Michael Wilson of Barnard, S.D., who suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Mangan said their Chevrolet Blazer was southbound on South Dakota Highway 10 when it stopped at a stop sign. The SUV then proceed through the intersection and collided with a westbound Peterbilt semi.
After the collision, the SUV rolled into the south ditch. Both occupants were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to an Aberdeen hospital.
The driver of the semi 39 year-old Matthew Folkman of Oakes was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick Rural Fire and Ambulance and Aberdeen Fire and Rescue.
