N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Brennen Vance is the leading scoring for the Ellendale Cardinals but was held in check most of the day by the Dickinson Trinity defense. He got free for the biggest shot of his life in the final seconds and knocked down a three for a 41-39 win.

Ellendale stormed out of the gates to a 26-12 lead, by getting Luke Wertz open look after open look from the baseline. Wertz had 14 of those early points by the Cardinals. However, Dickinson Trinity was not the No. 2-seed in this tournament for nothing and they responded with a 21-2 run sandwiching halftime.

In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals defense held tight and allowed Trinity just four points. But the final four points appeared to be the game winner when Shawn Stoltz scored to put the Titans in front 39-38 with 4.4 seconds left.

Ellendale got the ball to Wertz in the middle who found a wide open Vance on the right wing for the actual game winner at the horn.

The win moves the Cardinals into tomorrow night’s semifinal against either Hillsboro-Central Valley or Turtle Lake-MM. Game time is scheduled for 6:30pm from the Minot State Dome. You can listen on Q101, KDDR, and NewsDakota.com
