CITY, IA (NewsDakota.com)- Day 2 of The NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament kicks off with the No 1 and No 10 defense in the nation squaring up in an opening round game. VCSU, who earned an at large bid, drew the undefeated and Sun Conference Champion Southeastern University Fire of Lakeland, Florida. SEU is the only unbeaten team in the tournament at 26-0, they were awarded a 2 seed. The Fire boast the best points against average in the nation surrendering just 54.1 points per game. First year head coach Tim Hays saw the defensive potential of his team when he took over last summer, he says there needed to be a changed in the team’s culture
The Vikings were top in The NSAA allowing just 58.1 points per game, that puts them 10th overall at the national level. Hays has been preparing for The Fire’s biggest defensive test this season
