N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist reported that the Jamestown Police Department was very busy in 2016, with the most calls for service coming for them.
The report, compiled by Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger, discusses personnel changes, breaks down the calls for service, and explores different programs implemented in 2016.
Edinger reported that there were changes in personnel again this year. Sergeant Thomas Nagel was terminated and Officer Matthew Baumgartner, Corporal Kent Warren, and Captain Gary Peterson resigned. Six were hired in the year to fill the vacancies.
As far as public relations go, Chief Edinger reports that identity theft and scam education continue to be highly popular and requested classes are given by Detective Lieutenant Leroy Gross.
“In 2016, the police department entered the social media arena by activating both a facebook page and twitter page,” Edinger reports. “The twitter account is slow in getting started, however our Facebook page has reached over 2,500 citizens of Jamestown. It’s a great way for us to connect and interact with the people we serve.”
Included in the annual report includes school related calls for service. In 2016, 323 total calls were to the Jamestown Public Schools. Some incidents include nine accidents, seven possessions of tobacco, and 11 unruly juveniles.
Later in the report, Chief Edinger breaks down different reportable offenses. Assaults reported in 2016 were 249, fewer than 254 in 2015. Others include 30 sex offenses, 574 thefts/fraud and 222 drug offenses.
“The most noted changes are Possession of Drug Paraphernalia offenses,” Chief Edinger reports. “Offenses were down in 2016 as well as Possession of Marijuana offenses. Theft of Property offenses increased in 2016.”
Total calls for service were up in 2016. 16,465 were reported in 2016, which is up from 16,178 in 2015. Arrests remained roughly the same with 1,273 total in the year.
