N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2016-17 Region three boys basketball tourney semifinal night was held at the Jamestown Civic Center on Tuesday night. Two games took place, with both District Five teams winning their games, here are the results:’
RV Carrington 53 No. 6 Linton/HMB 52
Senior Center Bryce Edland scored in the low post with 12.5 seconds left to give the Cardinals the lead by one, 53-52. The Lions would get the ball back and would get a look at the bucket to take the lead but would miss the shot and turn the ball over to Carrington with just .7 left, the Cardinals would in bounce the ball to half court and just hold on to it for the victory. Leading the way for Carrington was Garrett Bickett with 24 points, including four treys (60 on the season). Edland ended with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Cardinals had just six turnovers, the Lions had 12. Leading the way for Linton/HMB was Cole Vanderlaan and Jared Baumiller with 13 and Cole Baumiller and Lance Weiser with 12. Carrington hit five 3-pointers, the Lions were 0/8.
Ellendale 61 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 49
The District 5 champs shot 61% from the field, 17/23 from the free throw line and led by as many as 22 points as the Cardinals advance to the Region 3 title game on Thursday night at the Civic. Senior Luke Wertz had 19 points, Lucas Hofer added 14 points for Ellendale. NGS was led by Jamie Fettig with 15 points and five assists, Bryce Fettig added 14.
Thursday night schedule:
3rd place – Linton/HMB vs. Napoleon/GS
Championship – Carrington vs. Ellendale (rematch of D5 title game)
Pregame will start about 5:45pm on TED FM 98.3/102.7 and newsdakota.com, tip off at 6pm for the third place game, championship 20 minutes later. The winner of the championship game will advance to the State Class B Boys basketball tourney in Minot starting Thursday, March 16th.
