N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Regional Medical Center is using the month of March to focus on vasectomies.

A vasectomy is a sterilization procedure for men to prevent pregnancies. During the month of March, Urologist Dr. Robert Bates is asking individuals who want to learn more or are considering vasectomies to visit with him. Melissa Roaldson is a nurse for Dr. Bates.

The procedure results in a 99% birth-control rate in the male. The process can be reversed, but is a decision that should not come lightly.

Roaldson reports that the procedure takes around 45 minutes to complete and doesn’t involve any cutting or stitching. She says vasectomies are typically recommended over hysterectomies because of how easier it is on the male than the female.

Individuals that want to learn more can call the JRMC at 701-952-1050 or by visiting jrmcnd.com.
