N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – During a February 7th County Commission meeting, Commissioner Dave Schwartz reported that the state looked to close some State Highway Department shops due to budget cuts.
Schwartz pointed out that he had been contacted by several county residents asking for the council to oppose the provision in Bill 2012 that would close eight state highway shops to save $2.1 million. One of the state shops is in Courtenay, North Dakota.
“We are concerned for our safety while driving and for the ability of emergency vehicles to be able to get around,” stated Courtenay resident Robin Barnes in an e-mail. “We are hoping to get quite a few of us to be at the hearing for the vote and to be able to present our side of the story.”
Tonight at 7 PM in the Courtenay Community Hall, residents will be meeting to learn more information on the NDDOT Budget, which will be discussed March 2nd at 10 AM.
