(NewsDakota.com) – After a couple blow out losses to Bismarck St. Mary’s during the regular season in high school boys basketball, Jamestown took the Saints to the wire Saturday in the capital city in a West Region play-in game, before St. Mary’s escaped with a 77-74 victory. 

 The Jays trailed 43-26 late in the first half, but a 16-0 run by Jamestown sliced it to 43-42 at the break. 

Jamestown scored the first six points of the second half to bump the run to 22-0 and grabbed a five point lead at 48-43. 

The Saints put together an 11-0 run shortly there after and was able to hang on down the stretch. 

The Jays have many underclassman in the starting line up and we’re led by Sophomore Mason Walters with 22 points, Freshman Boden Skunberg with 15 and Junior John Horgan knocked down 24. 

 Senior Adam Reiten hauled down 14 rebounds and Sophomore Jared Kallenbach came up with six steals. 

 St. Mary’s was led by their horse Cole Gendreau with 25. 

“We showed really good stretches of basketball,  but we had those five minute stretches almost every game this season that really killed us. Part of that could be inexperience. We played with pretty much everybody in the state.” Said Blue Jay head coach Luke Anderson. 

Jamestown ends the season with a record of 2-19. The Saints, at 10-12, advance to the WDA Tourney and will face the #2 seed Dickinson in the opening round.
