N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  Day two of the 2016-17 Boys Class B District 5 Basketball Tourney was held at the Jamestown Civic Center on Saturday.  Three games were played, starting with an elimination game.  Here are the results:
 
No. 7 Midkota 69  No. 6 Barnes County North 46
The Mustangs of Midkota won their second game of the season (2-18) after defeating the Bison of BCN in the first game on Saturday and avoided elimination.  Midkota had five players in double figures, leading the way was 6’6″ Senior Center Chance Wells with 20 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots.  Chase Wells and Laine Hoyt added 13 each, Mason Smith 11 and Jory Boote had 10.  Leading the way for the Bison was Allen Contreras with 16 points and 14 rebounds.  Both teams combined for 13 treys, Midkota had 11.  BCN ends their season at 5-14 overall. 
 
No. 1 Carrington 69  No. 4 Oakes 47
The Cardinals shot 47% from the field and had only seven turnovers as they defeat the Tornadoes of Oakes in the first semifinal.  The Cardinals were led by Senior Center Bryce Edland with 14 points and eight rebounds.  Junior Garrett Bickett added 13 and Junior Kolton Vetter had 11.  Leading the way for Oakes was Tyler Voightman with 15 points, Jordan Cunningham added 13 and Layne Schmit had 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Carrington improves to 17-3 and will also advance to the Region 3 Tourney in Jamestown starting March 6th, Oakes drops to 6-15.
 
No. 2 Ellendale 71  No. 3 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 39
The Ellendale Cardinals shot 65% from the field, had four players in double figures and made nine 3-pointers as they will move into the championship on Monday night against Carrington.  Four-year starter and Senior Brennan Vance led all scorers with 23 points, including five treys and four steals.  Luke Wertz added 14 points and 10 rebounds, Hunter White had 13 and Austin Molan had 12 points.  The Rebels were led by Senior Brant Naze with 17 points including five treys.  Ellendale improves to 16-5 and will advance to the Region 3 Tourney, EKM drops to 8-13.
