(NewsDakota.com)- Fargo South outscored Valley City 12-8 in overtime to earn an 82-78 win and end The Hi-Liners season. Valley City finished with a final record of 5-17 while The Bruins improve to 10-12. They will play top seeded Fargo Davies Tuesday night at Davies in the opening round of The EDC Tournament. Valley City graduates 5 seniors Nate Rodriguez, Justin Manson, Levi Nix, Drew Oberlander and Dalon Allen.
The Bruins opened the game on a 4-0 run and would pushed their lead to 13-3. Valley City came charging back with a 12 point run and grabbed a 15-13 advantage with 9:35 remaining in the 1st half.Fargo South answered back with a 10 point run and took the lead 39-32 into halftime. For a majority of the final 18 minutes The Bruins were in control with their biggest lead at 13. Valley City mounted a come back and got the game down to 3 points with under a minute to play. A steal by Nate Rodriguez set up a 3 pointer by Justin Manson that tied the game at 70 with 24 seconds left.
The Bruins had a chance to win the game in regulation when Jack Pifer was sent to the line but went 0-2. The Hi-Liners won the ensuring rebound, Rodriguez missed a half court shot and the game went into overtime. Teams traded points in the 1st minute. Once South took the lead they wouldn’t give it up. Kaleb Johnson scored 7 of The Bruins 12 points all coming off free throws.
Nate Rodriguez had 4 treys and posted a team high 26 points. Justin Manson collected 15 points with Riley Miller and Levi Nix adding 10 each. Drew Oberlander scored 9. Sam O’Keeffe led The Bruins with 25 points, Kaleb Johnson had 17 and Charles Bennington and Jack Pifer 10.
