(JimmieAthletics.com) – After finishing the North Star Athletic Association conference season with an 85-75 win at Valley City State (N.D.) last Saturday, the Jimmies welcomed their rivals to the Jamestown Civic Center for the first round of the NSAA tournament.

Jacob Havron (SR/Pukalani, Hawaii) scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Jake Hagler (SR/Cando, N.D.) added 20 as Jamestown took a 95-87 victory Thursday.

The Jimmies (18-13) led 20-9 after Sam Johnson (JR/Mora, Minn.) drained a three-pointer with 11:24 in the half. VCSU then went on a 13-0 run, capped off by an Austin Dunbar bucket to make it 22-20 Vikings with 6:33 remaining.

Jamestown led 39-35 at the break, but used a 14-0 run in the second half to build a 24-point lead with 11:32 in the game. VCSU trailed by double-digits until Jayden Ferguson’s bucket at the 1:01 mark.

Both teams shot the ball well, with VCSU making 51.7% of their field goal attempts and the Jimmies hitting on 51.6% of their shots. UJ also shot 50 percent from beyond the arc compared to 44.4% for the Vikings.

Joining Havron and Hagler in double figures for the Jimmies were Logan Brown (SR/Roseville, Minn.) with 19, with Jon Purintun (SO/Linton, N.D.) and Riley Henderson (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) chipping in with 12 each. Henderson grabbed eight rebounds and Brown dished out eight assists.

Ferguson led VCSU with 25 points. Jason Ralph added 18 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. Dunbar tossed in 17 points and Rashad Satahoo finished with 12. The Vikings end their season at 16-15.

UJ advances to the NSAA semifinals and will face the winner of Dickinson State vs. Waldorf. If the Blue Hawks win, Jamestown plays at Dickinson Saturday, but if the Warriors are able to upset DSU, the Jimmies would host them Saturday.
