N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The ice is expected to be full Saturday afternoon during the 9th Annual Jamestown Rural Fire Department fishing derby.

The event started 9 years ago when a member of the JRFD thought it would be a great event to put on in the community.

Ben Maulding is the Fire Chief for the Jamestown Rural Fire Department. He says the rule meeting will be held tonight at 7 PM at KC Hall in Jamestown. It’s then an early start Saturday for the department.

Maulding stated that the parking lot on top of the hill will not be available for parking this year, so participants are asked to just park along the road. The event is a fundraiser for the JRFD. Prizes will be awarded for largest walleye, northern, perch, and crappie.

The JRFD Facebook page will be updated every 30 minutes with the leader in each category.

Maudling mentioned that funds raised yearly for the event help them purchase new equipment for the department.

The day will conclude at the Jamestown Civic Center with several raffle items, food for purchase from the Jamestown Shrine Clowns, and a free concert with 32 Below beginning at 6 PM. Visit www.jrfd.org or the Jamestown Rural Fire Department’s Facebook page.
