CITY (NewsDakota.com)- The Valley City Vipers squirt team won the 20th annual James Goadroad tournament in Jamestown on February 12th. They defeated Minot Gold and Bismarck Red with shut outs, then Cando in the semi final round and Langdon in the championship game.
According to head coach Joey Demers, “The kids had one goal in mind heading into the Goodroad tournament and that was to win it all. They accomplished that goal by working hard together as a team in all four games. It was a total team effort by the group and hey earned the championship. Its fun to see this group of kids continue to develop and get better as a team. They took another step forward this weekend.”
Their win at the Goodroad tournament was their third championship win of the season. They won the 34th annual Jon and Pat Olsen tournament B division February 5th in Devils Lake beating out the Grand Forks Warriors, Grafton and the Grand Forks Blazers. The first tournament of the season was the Headwaters Cup in Park Rapids, MN January 20-22nd. They defeated Brainard Blue and Brainard White, Park Rapids and Hermantown to take home the trophy.
The squirts are currently 19 and 6 on the season with 3 games left to play.
Members of the Viper Squirt team are: Gabe Jenison, Seth Gordon, Bryson Heck, Corbyn Powell, Levi Trader, Owen Struble, Dylan Matcha, Andrew Tangen, Dalton Ness, Claire Powell, Landon Martinson and Carter Borg. Head coach for the squirts is Joey Demers. Assistant coaches are Dustin Lindgren and Ryan Schaner.
