N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several Jamestown residents attended an open house Monday evening to learn more about the proposed paving project of 5th Street NE.

The project would pave the road leading past TRAC from 12th Avenue to 27th Avenue NE. It would also provide curb and gutter. The road would be 42 inces wide gutter to gutter and would cost around $2.5 million.

Ben Aaseth is with Interstate Engineering and he stated that they will have sidewalks and pedestrian features. He pointed out that due to the expected high vehicle and pedestrian traffic, they would be installing three speed tables on the road.

Aaseth said depending on the bids, they hoped to have the contractor to start in May or June this year. They expect to have the road paved and done up to TRAC by the time the facility opens.

Several residents brought up concerns of flooding and draining in the area. Darrell Hornbuckle with Interstate Engineering reported that two detention ponds were planned with construction that would drain the water away to two seperate areas. One resident was concerned with how fast the water would drain. Hornbuckle reported that there was a difference between asphalt and gravel drainage.

Other concerns residents had were the amount of traffic the road would see and who would be paying for the project. Interstate Engineering collected comments and concerns from residents, which will be discussed and addressed. More information is expected to be presented at the next City Council meeting in March.
