(NewsDakota.com) The number one and two seeds will meet Monday night at the Jamestown Civic Center for the Class B District 5 Basketball Tournament Championship after advancing from semi-final play Saturday night. Four other teams will have a shot to earn the two remaining tickets to the Region III tournament.

Loser-Out: #7 Midkota 42 #3 Barnes County North 41

The Mustangs won their first District 5 game of the season due in large part to free-throw conversions. Midkota was 14-18 from the line, and nine of 10 in the second half, while the Bison were four for 13 in the second half and 11 of 21 for the contest.

Midkota had a team high 19 points from Jade Boot. BCN was lead by Hannah Willson with 16 points.

Semifinal #1: #1 Carrington 53 #4 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 52

The Loboes had a ten point lead going to the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals outscored their opponents in the fourth quarter 19-8 to come back and win the game. LLM’s Jackie Meiklejohn had an open look at a three at the final horn, but it just rolled out.

The Cardinals had 16 points from Maara Nelson. LLM had 16 from Anna Holen who fouled out in the latter stages of the game. Meiklejohn and Kallene Klever each added 11 for the Loboes.

Semifinal #2: #2 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 68 #6 Oakes 44

The Rebels never gave up the lead from the start of the game, although the Tornadoes, who were down nine after the first quarter, were able to rally to be down by five at intermission. EKM then outscored Oakes 18-9 in the third to pull away for good.

Kaitlyn Scheile put in 23 points for EKM, while Oakes had a team high 13 points from Nicole Schmitz.

Monday’s play starts with two Region III qualifying games/loser-out affairs. At 4:30 p.m., Oakes and Ellendale meet followed by LaMoure-LM and Midkota around 6..

The District 5 Championship between Carrington and EKM is set for around 7:30.
