“There’s a lot more to home affordability than the price a homebuyer agrees to pay the seller,” the website states. “o find the most affordable places to buy a home, SmartAsset took a holistic approach, considering closing costs, real estate taxes, homeowners insurance and mortgage rates in our analysis.”
SmartAsset also found the total cost over five years for four different expenses: closing costs, taxes, insurance, and mortgage payments.
Valley City topped the list with the affordability index equaling 42.43. Williston, Wahpeton, Devils Lake and Jamestown round out the top five.
