ROCKFORD, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  The opening day of the 2017 Girls Class B District 7 Basketball Tourney kicked off at New Rockford/Sheyenne High School on Friday night with three games.  Last year, the Raiders of Lakota/Edmore won the championship.  Here are the first day results:

No. 5 Four Winds/Minnewaukan 65  No. 4 New Rockford/Sheyenne 46

Freshman Latasha Bellile poured in 28 points for FWM to help the number five seed defeat the number four seed in the opening game.  Riah Littleghost had 19, both Bellile and Littleghost had three 3-pointers each.  Leading the way for the Rockets was Rebecca Allmaras with 16.   

No. 2 Harvey/Wells County 63  No. 7 Lakota 12

Freshman Jasmine Ripplinger had 17 points off the bench, including five 3-pointers to help the Hornets advance to the semifinal game on Saturday night.  Kari Wolfe added 13 and McKayla Jones had 11.  For the Raiders, they were led by Breanne Schmidt woth 10.  

No. 3 Benson County 49  No. 6 Dakota Prairie 30

Junior Danielle Schwanke had 20 points for the Wildcats as they move into the second semifinal on Saturday night against the Hornets.  Kaylee Lybeck had 14.  Leading the way for the Knights was Shaye Frederick with 12.

Here is Saturday’s schedule:

4pm –  Dakota Prairie vs. Lakota  (elimination game)

530pm – Warwick vs. Four Winds/Minnewaukan (semifinal)

7pm – Harvey/WC vs. Benson County (semifinal)

The Raven 103.1 FM and newsdakota.com will broadcast the first game, starting about 3:45pm pregame, and the third game on Saturday, starting about 6:45pm pregame.  New Rockford/Sheyenne will have a bye on Saturday and will play at 5:30pm on Monday in a region qualifying game against the loser of the second semifinal game.
