N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Freshman Seth Nelson hit a big three with under five minutes left and Sophomore Payton Smith hit two big free throws with just seconds left to help the Cardinals secure the victory over the Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier on Thursday night 73-69. With the win, Carrington improves to 6-0 in District 5 and 15-2 overall and will be the number one seed heading into the District 5 Tourney starting February 24th at the Jamestown Civic Center. EKM drops to 4-2 in District 5 and 6-11 overall.
For Carrington, Junior Point Guard Garrett Bickett led all scorers with 24 points, including three 3-pointers, he has 45 on the season so far. Senior Center Bryce Edland added 19 points. Leading the way for EKM was Sophomore Guard Isaac Huber with 22 points, including two 3-pointers. Junior Forward Lane Hanson added 21, he shot 16 free throws and made nine of them. The Cardinals, as a team, shot only 15 free throws and made 11 of them.
