N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The American Lung Association of North Dakota and local Fire Departments are continuing the fight against careless use of tobacco products.

“Operation Butt Out” is a collaboration between both organizations that urges residents to properly put out their cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.

Kristie Wolff is Manager of Tobacco Control and Advocacy. She says departments statewide were seeing an increase in fires caused my smoking materials.

Wolff pointed out that they’ve begun working with several entities to help provide and spread the information.

Ultimately, the organization and Fire Departments want to work towards providing information on how to prevent smoking material fires. Wolff says this will help several statewide organizations including their own.
