N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay Boys hockey team defeated Bismarck Century for the first time since 2007 on Thursday night in the Capital City.

Jamestown pulled out a 5-4 victory snapping a 22 game losing streak to the Patriots. “It feels good to get that monkey off our back” said head coach Matt Stockert, “We had a solid 51 minute effort”

The Jays struck early as Devin Hofmann scored his ninth goal of the season 25 seconds after the opening face off. Senior Hunter Beckmann scored at the 1:43 mark, his seventh of the season, and suddenly it was 2-0 Jamestown.

After a Patriot goal sliced it to 2-1, Connor Fuchs scored a power play goal to make it 3-1 with six minutes left in the period. Century pumped in a couple goals in a span of 45 seconds to tie it at three after one.

Cole Burkle put Jamestown back on top early in the second with his 10th of the season and the Jays took a 4-3 lead headed to the third.

The Patriots tied the game once again with five minutes remaining, but Fuchs banged in a rebound off his own shot with just three minutes to go, his second tally of the game and his 5th of the season, and it stood up for the game winner.

Century our shot the Jays, 36-22 but Jamestown Junior netminder Matthew Schneider came up with 32 saves.

The Blue Jays improve to 8-5 in the West Region and 9-9 overall.

Next up is Jamestowns final home game of the season on Tuesday, February 7th against Mandan at Wilson Arena.
