CITY (NewsDakota.com)- Teams hung tough in the 1st half but neither could find an answer for The Roughriders as Valley City suffered a doubled header loss Tuesday at The Hi-Liner Activity Center. In the girls’ contest Red River won 78-42. A strong 2nd half carried the boys to a 88-68 victory. The Hi-Liners are back in action Friday as they welcome The Wahpeton Huskies to town for an EDC doubleheader. Pregame is at 5:30 on KOVC with video stream at NewsDakota.com.

Valley City held a lead and came back twice to tie the No.3 team in Class A Basketball. Less than 30 seconds into the game Reagan Ingstad was fouled and went 2 for 3 from the free throw line to give The Hi-Liner a quick 2-0 advantage. Red River answered back and went up 4-2. Led by Courtney Lloyd Valley City would tie the game at 4 and again at 10. The Roughriders were up 15-11 when they took control of the game and went into the half up 45-21. They’d outscore Valley City 33-21 in the 2nd half to end their 2 game losing skid.
Courtney Lloyd scored 12 points to lead Valley City, Taryn Dieterle added 7 and McKenna Taylor 6. Kendra Bohm and Danica Kemnitz both had 15 points for Red River.

The Roughriders led from start to finish in their 88-68 win. In the first half Valley City pulled within 6 points 3 times but could never grab a lead and trailed 47-38 at intermission. They scored 4 quick points to open the 2nd and pulled within 5, 47-42. Red River roared back and pushed their lead to 21 points.
Valley City had 3 in double figures paced by Nate Rodriguez’s 14, Drew Oberlander had 13 and Justin Manson 11. Mark Toe from Red Rider led all scorers with 27, Jordan Polynise had 20 and Mason Benefield 14 points.
