SD (VCSUVikings.com)-The Valley City State track & field teams had six Top 10 finishes Friday at the large NCAA Division II Invitational hosted by South Dakota State University.

Viking athletes also broke one school record and posted nine indoor personal records.

“This meet provided our student-athletes with the type of exposure to quality competition that is necessary to achieve success,” said VCSU head coach Chris Johnson. “The kids need to compete against the best to not only measure their development but also gain a mental edge for down the road. I’m proud of the way they responded today.”

Viking freshman Keauna Hansen set a new school record in the women’s 400 meters, crossing the line in a time of 62.88 seconds. She broke the old indoor record of 63.60 set by Anna Fuka in 2011.

Seri Geisler recorded a fifth-place finish in a field of 39 women’s shot put throwers (12.81 meters). Megan Johnson placed sixth out of 24 women’s triple jumpers, recording a personal-best mark of 5.22 meters.

On the men’s side, Dennis Gonzalez placed fifth in the 3,000 meter run (9:10.92) among a field of 22 runners. Orin Rambow placed 8th (1:59.50) amongst 28 runners in the men’s 800 meters. Niklas Ernst (400 meters) and Jaylon Sibley (triple jump) both placed 10th in their respective events.
